 Dubai Industrial City In its bid to diversify and sustain its economic growth, the Dubai government, along with Dubai Holding, proposed the creation of Dubai Industrial City (DI) in year 2004. This self-reliant city caters to the industrial sector that up till now has contributed around $8 billion to Dubai’s GDP. With a budget of $200 million for the first phase of construction, and year 2015 as the projected year of completion, it is estimated that DI will contribute in excess of $10 billion to Dubai’s GDP by year 2010. DI Master Plan According to the DI master plan, there are six distinct industrial zones for specific manufacturing activities in Dubai. They are: - Machinery and Mechanical Equipment

- Base Metal
- Chemicals
- Food and Beverage
- Mineral Products
These industries will sprawl over 560 million sq. ft. of prime land along the Arabian Canal. Location: Being strategically located, close to Jebel Ali seaport and Dubai World Central airport, and highways connecting Dubai to other Emirates, DI offers its members access to markets beyond UAE, for example Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. Why Dubai Industrial City? DI was launched in order to develop manufacturing industries in a systematic and planned manner, to ensure a steady influx of raw materials for other industries, etc. DI provides a high-tech work environment to achieve this. It is considered as Dubai’s first dedicated and comprehensive industrial destination, designed to look as a custom-built one-stop shop for industries on a work, live and play model. Facilities in Dubai Industrial City DI, a tax-free zone, offers world-class facilities and infrastructure to its members. They include: 1. Developed Infrastructure - Transport: A 10.5 km long main road, and a network of interior roads set for completion in 2009, will provide easy access to nearby seaports, airports, and highways.
- Warehouses: A total of 24 million square feet area is reserved for warehouses.
- Telecommunication: Latest telecommunication technology is available for communication within and outside DI. This network of communication will directly link the city to the international markets.
2. Dedicated Logistics Zone TransPARK and Deutsche Post will provide logistic services in DI. Main consultancy areas include freight forwarding, distribution, and warehousing. 3. Governmental services (Taasees)This service is setup in the headquarters of Dubai Industrial City. It is meant to provide ease to the city client in a manner that they will be able to establish and sustain their business competently with the provision of governmental as well as other business enabling services. Taasees offers 3 packages namely; Business Setup Package, Construction Support Package, and Taasees Residency Package. 4. Academic and R&D Zone DI offers vocational training for industrial subjects in various categories. 5. Human Resource CenterThis offers recruitment services for both skilled and unskilled labors from around the world. 6. Smart Business ServicesAlso known as Taasees, it provides fast-track solutions to government procedures (like licensing, land leasing, permits, etc). 7. Dubai Center for Industrial StandardsAlso known as Maqayees, this is a regulatory body that plans, establishes, and monitors quality, health, safety, and environmental standards for industries operating within DI. 8. Residential AreasDI will construct homes for its members, their 87,000 employees, and their families. 9. Community FacilitiesWorld-class medical clinics, education system, public transport, banking services, religious and entertainment avenues are part of the DI master plan. 10.
